Safety Standards: Precision Manufacturing Services Beyond Compliance

safety

The image of a manufacturing facility has transformed over the past several decades—the days of dark, cluttered shops are gone.

Cleanliness is now the expectation in an effective manufacturing environment. Proper organization and housekeeping allow for efficient manufacturing and — above all — safety.

At ReNEW Manufacturing Solutions, we prioritize safety in everything we do.

We want our employees to feel at ease and ready to produce excellent results. That’s only possible when we implement comprehensive workplace protections. In modern manufacturing, housekeeping, and organization aren't just about appearance—they're fundamental to both workplace safety and our success as a metal manufacturer.

Tracking Safety With Our Data-Focused Approach

We begin every business unit review by examining our safety metrics and key performance indicators (KPIs), including days since recordable incidents and Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR). Our goal is straightforward: We aim to reduce these numbers every year.

Even when we’re performing well, we’re constantly looking for ways to improve.

TRIR, in particular, provides a clear picture of our safety performance. It uses a formula that calculates incidents per person and work hours. TRIR allows us to easily compare our standing relative to industry norms and standards.

The Protocols in Place in Our Facility

To improve our performance, we constantly analyze opportunities to improve our protocols and equipment.

Safety

Technology: Our shop employs comprehensive machine guarding and light curtain systems. We also stay current on the latest manufacturing technology that could improve our facilities. At IMTS 2024, we closely examined safety options to see if any recent advances would help to further reduce risk for our employees.

PPE: Our strict Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) protocols are non-negotiable for employees involved in custom metal fabrication and precision CNC machining. Safety glasses are mandatory on the shop floor. We also require properly fitted gloves for material handling and hearing protection in high-noise areas.

Training and Feedback: New employees undergo comprehensive safety training during onboarding, with safety protocols clearly outlined in our employee handbook. We regularly survey our workforce for feedback about workplace safety, taking steps to address any concerns team members raise.

Housekeeping

Proper housekeeping creates a far safer and more efficient workplace, free of problems such as potential cutting or tripping hazards. We emphasize several areas of housekeeping:

  • Structured material management, including dedicated areas for incoming materials
  • Digital inventory tracking systems integrated with our ERP
  • Organized storage solutions ensuring every item has its designated place
  • Proper waste management with clearly marked containers for different materials, including sharp-edged scrap

The Effects of a Safer Working Environment

Safety is, frankly, an expectation in today’s manufacturing world. When customers visit our facility, we know that they aren’t only examining our machines—they are looking at every detail of our operation.

When they see our clean, safe shop floor, they know that our attention to detail will extend to every aspect of our production and lead to fast, quality parts.

A Partner With the Right Priorities

Our emphasis on safety and housekeeping reflects our fundamental respect for our employees. We don’t view these as mere compliance requirements at ReNEW—we constantly aim to exceed OSHA standards, seeing them as the minimum rather than a goal.

We’re dedicated to our workforce’s well-being, and we know this is a competitive advantage as a metal manufacturer.
